Kurzfassung:
This paper reviews the design and construction of Félix Candela’s last shell in Valencia (Spain, 2000) from a current perspective. The particular aspects of Candela’s equilibrium-based design method are contrasted with the final design, which included steel fibers in the concrete mix that provided the required bending strength. This made possible to recreate the architect’s spectacular geometry in an efficient manner.
